Driveways and Groundworks

They say that first impressions count and when it comes to your property, this often means your driveway. Aside from being a handy place to park your car, a stable area at the front of your home means a safe pathway out to the road especially where mobility is compromised or weather conditions make travelling more challenging. The groundworks, particularly drainage, for this area are equally as important for longevity of your new drive and also to protect your property and yourselves.

As with all our installations, we take great care in the preparation, discussing the process with you and checking for underground pipes and services. A full excavation and sub bases installed to appropriate depths with substantial barrier membranes will ensure that the driveway is laid to our usual high standards and will last for years,

Block Paving Driveway

Our most popular choice of driveway, we can lay this in a variety of colours, brick sizes and patterns, including contrasting borders. Once laid tight, the bricks do not move and provide a slip resistant and stable drive that is also low maintenance. The bricks are incredibly strong and able to withstand heavy weights and variable weather making this a great option to last at least 20 years. Should any access be required to the ground below for pipeworks or utilities, the small area can be lifted and refitted without any noticeable joins showing.

Clients often ask about movement or weed growth through the block paving, however we are confident in our abilities to prepare the bed for the block paving to a standard that ensures there is no movement and weeds will not grow from below. Seeds dropping down from above may take root however can be pulled out as you spot them to keep your drive weed free.

Granite set blocks are also available as an attractive alternative to the bricks and give a smoother, slightly sparkly, high end appearance to your drive. Granite is also naturally very hard wearing so makes a great choice for a long lasting drive.

Tarmac Driveway

Still a popular option, tarmac driveways provide a smooth and attractive finish to your space. It will require adequate drainage which we will assess and advise on, possibly altering the levels in the base to ensure the surface water runs away from your property and provides a perfectly flat prepared surface to lay on top of. Tarmac driveways can be laid in a variety of colours and will last for many years with some basic maintenance.

Gravel Driveway

A Gravel driveway is a more cost effective option when on a budget. Available in various colours, it can be replenished easily and is simple to maintain. It also drains well naturally meaning additional drainage is rarely required and will not be hugely affected by the weather. The gravel is laid on top of plastic eco grids to minimise the movement of the stones and avoid deep dips appearing, yet a gravel drive can be forgiving where your land is prone to movement or you have tree roots. With regular maintenance to replace lost gravel and even the surface, a gravel driveway can last for a very long time.
